At the Angling Clinic Experience, students learn about water safety, fish biology, angling skills, and angling equipment. The Angling Clinic Experience is a day-long field trip to a local pond. The clinic combines hands-on learning activities, games, teaching stations, demonstrations, and an opportunity for students to fish. Classrooms enrolled in Kokanee Karnival at the Comprehensive Level are required to participate in the Angling Clinic Experience as part of their acceptance agreement. The Angling Clinic Experience consists of the following four stations.
This station emphasizes fish anatomy and relies on a stuffed cloth fish as a visual aid. Fisheries biologists from the ODFW and DNF may bring additional visual aids, including posters and mounted fish, and then present additional information.
Part 3 of the Spring Angling Clinic curricula – Water Safety and Casting – Station 2. Volunteers will set up this station in the morning. This part of the curriculum consists of the following parts: Water Safety, Hypothermia , Boating safety, Reach, Throw, Row and Go, Casting Instructions – include safety while casting. & Practice Casting
Part 4 of the Spring Angling Clinic curricula – Knot Tying – Station 3. This part of the curriculum consists of the following parts: Initial Discussion, Surgeon’s End Loop, Improved Clinch Knot , Surgeon’s Knot & Bobber Attachment.
Part 5 of the Spring Angling Clinic curricula – Fishing Equipment and Stream Habitat – Station 4. This part of the curriculum consists of the following parts: Fishing Equipment, Stream Habitat & Fly Casting.
